Drunk Driving and Humor

This past week Jackass and Viva La Bam star, Ryan Dunn passed away at the young age of 34 in an automobile accident which most likely occurred because Dunn had been heavily intoxicated. Shortly after news of his passing spread, film critic Roger Ebert made an apparent attempt at humor via twitter that aggravated many based off the timing of the ‘joke.’

While as a society we are increasingly tolerant of crude humor, we still aren’t quite acceptive of jokes made about the untimely deaths of our compatriots. Ebert eventually admitted this in a followup post, stating that he still thinks drunk driving is a real issue, but the timing of his joke was insensitive to Dunn’s family, friends and fans.

The events served as a reminder to us all that drunk driving is a serious problem in America and jokes about it are never funny.

Of course, that is unless it results in a ban on dancing.
